Cabarete is located on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, 30 minutes from Puerto Plata and 15 minutes from Sosua. Cabarete may not be your first stop if seeking relaxation and sunbathing, but if relaxation with adventure and activity is your goal, Cabarete has ideal conditions for windsurfing, kiteboarding and other fun in, on and above the water, attracting thousands of tourists a week.

It has a pleasant seaside location with dozens of small and affordable hotels. The luxury all-inclusive resorts are located mainly at the outer edges of Cabarete keeping the unique and intimate atmosphere of Cabarete intact.

Cabarete - Surfparadise
The wide white sandy beach is 4 km long and protected by coral reefs and a bay, with easterly winds which ensure year-round conditions ideal for surfing. Cabarete has become one of the top surf spots in the world. Cabarete Race Week held in June has surfers in from around the world to work at and display their skill with the waves. Cabarete has something for the advanced surfer and schools for students of surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. You can also learn various other water sports from professional instructors using first class materials. Cabarete is not just for surfers, since its chill atmosphere and large white sand beach is also ideal for a relaxing beach holiday.

 » The Climate in Cabarete

Sunny wet winters, warm trade winds.

The best time for a beach vacation in Cabarete is still winter, from January to March with pleasant temperatures of between 25 °C and 27 °C (77-80 °F), even with an average rainfall of 100 to 200mm per month! The higher summer temperatures can reach 31 °C (88 °F), with average rainfall of 50 mm, and the ever-present trade winds temper the humidity. The rainy season in Cabarete is from October to early January, with most precipitation in December, often up to 300mm and tropical rainstorms are generally heavy but short-lived. As with the other areas, effects of a passing hurricane will be present from August to October.

A tip: do not worry too much about the weather forecasts showing icons of clouds and thunderstorms! The weather is very specific to the locality of the weather station and if it rains somewhere within the range of the station, a rain icon will be displayed. You will sometimes see thunderstorms predicted or recorded for every day of a two week period. It does NOT mean that it will rain every day for that fortnight. The weather is usually better at the coast anyway, which is where the hotels are.
