The biggest attraction in the area is the beach of Bávaro and there are no villages of importance in the immediate vicinity. The nearest large city is Higuey, about 50 kilometers away. The main historical attraction in Higuey is the cathedral: the Basilica de la Altagracia. Bávaro has some good golf courses, and you can ask at your hotel about the possibility of setting up a tee time.

There are a few activities that you can arrange when visiting in Bávaro, depending on your interests. You can ride a horse on the beach, ride an ATV to Macao Beach, explore the area on a Segway, have a party on a boat cruising the shoreline with music and drinks, go ziplining....

The tour operators at the hotels offer excursions as well. If you choose to book that way, compare what is offered and select which one looks best for you among all of the excursion sellers (you don’t have to just book from your own tour operator). Disregard the reps who say that leaving the resort is dangerous and that you should not book a tour with an independent company. If you book directly with the provider of the tour, it can be much cheaper and it adds to your selection.

Bávaro and Punta Cana have long been a vacation hotspot for two decades thanks to the incredible climate and fantastic beaches. Throughout the year there is an abundance of sunshine and warm sea temperatures of around 26 °C (78 °F). Many vacationers consider the winter season with its cooler temperatures to be the best time to visit Bávaro. The precipitation and humidity are relatively low during the winter as well. Vacationers who prefer higher temperatures for their break in Punta Cana, should consider taking their holiday between May and October, though September is the most active for hurricane related storms (though the hurricane itself is unlikely to hit Punta Cana). During the summer, temperatures rise in Punta Cana above the 30 °C (86 °F), with an average of nine hours high sun per day. There may be daily showers which clear the air and give a moment away from the intense heat, but it does not disrupt your holiday.
A tip: do not worry too much about the weather forecasts showing icons of clouds and thunderstorms! The weather is very specific to the locality of the weather station and if it rains somewhere within the range of the station, a rain icon will be displayed. You will sometimes see thunderstorms predicted or recorded for every day of a two week period. It does NOT mean that it will rain every day for that fortnight. The weather is usually better at the coast anyway, which is where the hotels are.
